I just purchased my first DVD player and wouldn't you know it....a problem right out of the box. It's just an inexpensive little APEX brand unit. Pretty sure It's hooked up correctly, but when I insert a brand new DVD or CD , message reads "BAD DISK". Any ideas ?..or maybe I should return it and get a better quality unit. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank You,

A dirty disk could cause that. The little reader on the player could also be dirty. You can gently clean it with a Q-Tip soaked in alcohol. When the burner in my computer went bad it read Bad Disk. I had to replace it. Beyond that is beyond me.

It sounds like you have tried more than one Disk and had the same problem. If it is happening on more than one disk, chances are that the problem is with your player. If any of those disks work OK in another player, it is definitely your new player.
I would first try some of the disks in a different player. If they work, then return your player for a new one.
