Hello,

I hope someone can help me. I have a Kenmore compact fridge with a separate freezer compartment. I am a school teacher, and over the summer, the fridge was unplugged. Upon starting school, I realized the freezer was working perfectly, but the bottom fridge part was not. The custodian said that it is one piece, and that if the freezer works, then the fridge should also. He showed me the metal pipes that carry the freon, or the "coldness" down to the fridge section. Could those pipes be stuck or something? Does this have anything to do with cleaning the back coils? HELP PLEASE! I would hate to have to buy another fridge.

Thank you soooooooo much for any guidance you can give.

I am no pro, but it sounds like a fan may be the culprit. It carries the cool air down to your fridge section. If it is not working, your freezer will freeze, but the fridge won't cool. Check your owners manual for the location of the fan and see if it is working. If not, it may have ceased during the off time.

It is unlikely that anthing is stuck in the coils as this is a closed system and it ran before.

I'd investigate whether the door is sealing properly. It could be letting in warm air and so only the freezer is maintaining a low temp. See our guide on how to check a door seal.
