Kenmore microwave touchpad not working

I have a 2004 Kenmore microwave that the keypad works only when it wants to. Everything else seems to work fine. Sometimes it will work with no problems and other times I can't get not even one of the buttons to work or some of them to work. I mainly have problems with the stop button but last night it stopped responding to the all of them even the light and fan buttons. If I push a button it just keeps on saying to " touch the keypad then choose a desired operation." Is it possible I can fix this myself or would I be better off trashing it?

You can probably buy a new keypad for approx. 150.00. I would check to make sure of the price but a new microwave is probably in order.
