Well, we've lived with this for years, but it seems to be getting worse. Whenever, we use any water source in our house (dishwasher, washing machine, sprinler system), the downstairs toilet (in half bath on the first floor of a colonial) runs. Water trickles from the water line down into the tube. I've tried playing around with the float in the toilet, but the running water still happens. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The fill valve is probably shot and when the water supply pressure changes, that is enough to trigger the fill valve. Replace the fill valve and all will be quiet again.

Replaced the fill valve when I had this problem in a rental. Problem solved!!
