I replaced my drain valve solenoid a few months (or so, cant remember) ago because it melted and last week it melted again. What could cause this? Anyone have the same issue? I've read that this has happened to others yet I have not seen a fix or even a cause for the problem.

All the drain solenoids on GE dishwashers will smoke and burn when powered up too long. Usually due to a sticking timer or bad timer motor. Basically a failure waiting to happen! Sometimes a power surge or lightning also. I'v seen timers power up the solenoid and keep power on the entire wash time, warped or welded shut contacts!

Thanks for the reply.
If this is such a common problem you would think that GE would eventually put out a recall? I guess we need someones house to burn for them to act...
What would be the best way to troubleshoot the timer motor? Should I just replace it?

You may have a timer motor slowly going sour.I'v seen them just stop and jam anywhere in the sycle, whenever the cam provides too much breakout force.
Unfortunately they no longer sell the timer motor, just the timer.
I would check to see if it jams; if so get a new timer.
