I know most of these threads are related to appliance repair, but I need some help with my car. I recently replaced the head-gaskets on a 1988 Cadillac Deville. And I cant quite get the timing right! All the service manuals I have say to put a jumper on the "A" and "B" pins of the ALDL connector. Thats supposed to turn off the automatic spark advance. I did this as well as disconnecting the MAP sensor, and the car seems to still be advancing the timing on its own. Therefore I cannot put the car in its correct "base time". Whats most perplexing to me is, that I dont lack the capability to almost completely take apart an engine, and put it back together correctly! But I cant preform a simple task such as setting base time on a car!! Go figure! The car runs fairly smooth, but not 100% like it used to. Does anyone have any suggestions for me please? Thank you very much in advance.
