View Full Version : Reducing vibration

Hi All,

I just installed a new LG washer/dryer combo in a stacked configuration. So far, they work great but the washer causes a vibration during the spin cycle which can be felt through the floor in my family room, and yes the washer is level. I think it's because the spin speed is very fast (up to 1100 rpm).

I'm thinking some sort of vibration absorbing pad or mat might help. Does anyone have any other suggestions? One other thing, the solinoids on the water valves close the valves so fast it causes a water hammer problem. Any ideas on that?

Thanks

If you have just a simple vibration a rubber mat would help.
If serios vibration you would need to screw down a 3/4 inch plywood to firm up the floor
You can put water volume restrictors in the inlet valves to stop pipe vibration.

I might be way off here, but maybe if you don't open the water faucet all the way it will let less water pressure through and maybe that will help control the hammer effect. Sort of like a poor mans water flow restrictor. :D

Thanks for the replies guys.

I thought about some sort of rubber mat and was trying to find the appropriate one online. I just tiled the floor and added a 3/4" plywood base to exsisting subfloor then installed tile on top of cement board. You would thing that would have been enough to stiffen the floor.

As for the water hammer; I tried to reduce the flow by closing the supply valve a little but it doesn't help. The next step is to install a hydra-rester gizmo in the supply line to see if that helps.

Thanks again,

For your water hammer you might try securing the pipes so they can't move.

For the spin problem maybe see if it does it empty. It may be out of balance. I don't know if there's a way to re balance it or not. Just a thought.
