Please help,
I have a Kenmore icemaker that is not working. I have a guy who was supposed to look at it on this past Wednesday, but he hasn't shown up.
I filled the container with ice today and noticed the plate for the cube was "scalding" hot. Should I turn of the freezer until I get it fixed? I don't want the house to burn down.
Thanks,
Dan

I would try to just unplug the ice maker instead of the freezer. As for the heater, If it's a modular type and the blades are in the mold area, then they did not complete their cycle, and may suggest a failure of the modular unit. At any rate it seems to have stuck during the cycle.

Pull cover off the icemaker and verify a modular icemaker(it has many test points). Put a jumper between test points t& h,icemaker should advance to the 2 oclock position, if not you have a bad icemaker. If it advances check the freezer temperature; if not below 10 degrees your freezer is not cold enough for the icemaker to work.

I had the same problem (with a component-type) and after testing, determined the thermostat to be malfunctioning.
Until repairs can be made, unplug the icemaker or remove it altogether as the heater will make the freezer compartment warmer and cause the fridge to run a lot more.
