Hoover AAA140 leaking and not spinning

I'm a 'newbie', and although logically minded, know nothing about fixing a washing machine, is there anything 'obvious' I can do in the first instance?

The machine has been getting temperamental and is over 5 years old now, probably closer to 7; it won't perform all the programmes in its repertoire, and now the spin cycle either fails (error 3 often reoccurs, no longer have the manual which doesn't help) and soapy water is pooling across the floor.

I know this sounds pretty lame, but any advice or leading questions would be appreciated, I've really no idea where to start!

I recommend trying to locate the leaks first. You also should inspect the pump to make sure it isn't clogged.

I don't have access to an error code table for a Hoover machine.

Also, does this happen with only large loads? If you did a small load and set the water level for low, would the cycle complete?
