Besides me screaming while the washer is agitating and draining, so to is my admiral (Maytag) washing machine. I have already changed the belt and to my dismay no results. I've also read the acme how-to trouble shooting and the appliance repair post. The clearest thing I could find is that the break shoes may be dragging or the clutch may need to be replaced. Upon further investigation I believe only G.E. washers have clutches. So then my question becomes, how difficult on a scale of 1-5 are the shoes to replace? Should I just save myself the thermal meltdown and call out a tech, or scrap for parts? I have very much enjoyed reading the threads and figured out that when I replaced the heating elements in my water heater last week, I actually needed to replace the thermostats as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Need a make and model #. If it's a Performa washer you have big problems.

It is an Admiral model #LNC6741A71, I'm not sure how old it is, was included in the price of my home, have owed it for 6yrs. Thank you so much

I again want to say thank you for the reply to my post. My dad stopped by today and told me he was sorry; but, he was almost positive that the sound it was making and the fact that it's making it while agitating and draining makes him believe that it's the transmission. So I'm out washer shopping, since the cost or a transmission replacement is comparable to buying new. I just want to say this is a great place to go for information, I think reading other people's posts and the replies will help in the future. :)
