whirlpool sxs fridge- too much ice

My Whirlpool 27 cu ft side by side fridge (ed27dqxxn00) will not stop making ice
unless I raise the control arm to the locked position. It appears that the ice piles up on top of the arm. The arm moves freely. Any ideas?

The cutoff arm has to be raised to high before it opens the cutoff switch. I have opened the cover on my ice maker and located the switch and adjusted it by slightly bending the switch so it would make contact or break contact sooner.
