Picture not coming on, but sound is ok.

I bought a 21" Philips LCD and I've had this problem since day one, when I turn it on the sound will always come on but not always the picture. To get a picture I turn it off then back on again which always works. Any ideas?

This sounds to me like a backlight problem. If you leave the LCD on, does the light ever come on eventually, or does it always require you to turn it off then on again to fix it?

Are you still covered by warranty?

When you turn on the TV, do you always turn it on set to TV broadcasts (cable, satellite, antenna - whichever)? If you were to set it play a DVD before turning it off, and then next time you turn it on, then turn on the DVD AFTER turning on the TV, will the TV always light up?

My thought here is whether it is a problem with signal detection. The screen may not light up until it detects a signal. If you experiment and find that the DVD signal always makes it light up when it should, then the problem may be the connection to your broadcast TV source, the broadcast output or an internal circuitry problem.

Also, instead of turning it off and then back on, can switching between sources (such as DVD and broadcast TV) cause it to light up?

Scot, I must say I havn't tried to leave it on to see if it eventually comes up. I will try try this tonight.
DIY Guy, Yes I do only have it set up to a cable box. I will try to change to another source, and your other suggestions and see what happens.
I'll get back to you when I check these things out.

Good, let us know. I am assuming that the sound is operating completely normally, and it's coming from the LCD panel, not external speakers.

Yes sound is fine, and it has built-in speakers. I tried all that was suggested and it is still doing the same thing. One thing that I did notice that happens when I turn the screen off with the remote the green "On" light turns to red but never completely off (like a computer screen) I wonder if I turn it off at the switch if it would make a differance when I turn it back on?.?.?
I also haven't tried to hook up a DVD player to it to see if it makes it come on right away, but do so.
