I have a GE washer that is 3 years old. Came home the other day and all it will do is agitate. It won't fill up with water or spin just agitate or nothing at all. I replaced the timer thinking that might be it, but it wasn't. Any suggestions, I am afraid it will have been cheaper to buy a new washer than to keep trying new parts. I can do the work but I just don't know what to fix and help will be greatly appreciated.

Getting water should be the first thing so check the WATER INLET VALVE (http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/washer/check/inletvalve.php) first and then check the WATER LEVEL PRESSURE SWITCH (http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/washer/check/waterlevel.php)

Other water related components:
* Check that the water supply valves are turned on
* Inspect the water supply hoses for kinks
* Check the filter screens
* Test the water level switch
* Test the water temperature switch
* Test the timer control
* Test the water inlet valve

Is it full of water?

It is not full of water. When you put it on the fill cycle it is still stuck on agitate. I don't think that it knows it is on the fill cylce which is why I suspected the timer, but that wasn't the problem.

Probably a stuck water level switch. Take the little tubing that goes to it off at the bottom of the washer tub and blow in it, contacts should then open up.You should hear a clicking sound when the internal switch opens. If not, it is bad, just replace.
