Maytag gas dryer stains towels

I've a 5 yr. old Maytag gas dryer, it seems there is some kind of black residue on the drum and on the inside of the door. It's turned our white towels grey, but doesn't seem to transfer off on other items

Could be a pen went through the dryer and you are seeing ink. Try cleaning by hand with bleach or TSP.

Another thing is to run a white cloth through the washer. Take it out and let it dry. Check for black marks. If you find any, then the spots are probably transmission oil leaking into the washer.
