I have done a ton of reading on this site and here is my question. I came home one evening to find that the freezer is no longer freezing. So I assume its the compressor. I do the Ohm meter test putting it on the lowest setting and here are my findings.

Post 1 & 2= 12.4 Ohms
1 & 3= 5.5 Ohms
2 & 3= 17.5 Ohms

So given that information, does this mean the compressor needs replacing?

If the compressor needs replacing why would a DIY'er not be able to replace it? Just looks looks like it requires some soldering capabilities. Am I missing something?

You probably have a bad overload relay, just order and replace. Also, check that your compressor is getting 115 volts.

Thanks for the information. Is there a way to test the overload relay?

How to test the overload protector (http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/overload.php)

I have tested the overload relay and it seems to Ohm out to 0 solid.

If truly zero ohms, it is shorted, buy a new one. Also verify by monitoring compressor current. If very high before the overload shuts down, this confirms bad relay.
