I have a 8 year old Maytag MTB2456DEW Top Mount Refrigerator (Serial# 10516046WM / revision# 10). This is the third time within a week and a half that the evaporator fan has stopped running for an extended period of time. The first two times it stayed off for a day and came on the next morning. There is frost on lower back wall of the freezer and some water on the top shelf of the refrigerator. I do not hear the usual crackling sound it makes when it is defrosting. When the evaporator fan is on the refrigerator is noisy and causes the ice bin to rattle. While writing this thread I heard crackling sounds and the frost has disappeared, but the fan has not come on yet. We have not taken off the back freezer panel yet. What would be the most likely cause of my problem?

Check voltage to the motor terminals( press on the door switch if you have one)
voltage should be 115 volts. If not, your defrost thermostat might be bad.
