I have a three year old wine cooler. We typically keep the temperature at 50 degrees. Recently, the temp rose to 60-65 degrees and will not go lower. The thermostat seems to be working (shuts the compressor off when turned to warmest setting). The odd thing is that there is ice forming at the top of the unit. Initial troubleshooting reveals no fan nor vents as the entire cooling tubes are encased in foam which makes up the shell. I called Sunbeam Service and they informed me to send them the receipt and silver sticker and they will issue a pro-rated refund (approx 50%). Is it dead?

You have refrigeration problems, probably not worth fixing.

Thanks,
I spoke with my local appliance repair - most likely the compressor. After Freon drain/capture, new compressor, refill; it was going to be $300+. I called sunbeam and they offered a prorated refund based on their 5 year warranty. My local shop disposed of the cooler (after draining the freon) and an old dishwasher as well for $15 - I felt it was prudent to do so and not just toss the unit in the landfill.
Thanks for your feedback.
