I have an older 19.6 cu. ft. Whirlpool refrigerator at my cabin and it runs 80% of the time. It is a model EET-202PKGR2 with an icemaker. It pulls 3.0 amps when running and the tag says the full load amps are 6.5. The refrigerator section temp varies from 45.3 to 49.2 while the freezer temp varies between 8.3 and 35 degrees. It seems to run a lot even when we are not up at the cabin. I have cleaned the coils underneath the refrigerator and I checked out the defrost timer and it is also working, but still, it seems to run excessively. I don't know where the evaporator coils are to check them for ice buildup. I am guessing they are in the back of the freezer compartment behind the sheet metal. Would unplugging it for a couple of hours defrost it if it has an ice buildup? When I looked at the drip pan, it had some water in it. The fan is running fine, in fact everything seems to be fine, but it runs 80% of the time ( I.E. about 48 minutes of every hour). Isn't that excessive?

Turn the cold control up all the way and measure freezer temperature and post after 1 hour of running.

I left the thermometers in over night and this morning the freezer was at 0 degrees and the refrigerator compartment was at 37.5 degrees without changing anything. I think it operates OK, but because it runs 80% of the time, I think that is too much. What do you think? What would be a normal amount of running time for a refrigerator? The house is at about 72 to 74 degrees, so it isn't in an excessively hot environment. Also, it is just my wife and I who are up here, so it isn't being opened a lot.

Without looking at it I would say you need a little bit of refrigerant. Check back panel of freezer to confirm. It probably will not be frozen all over but just like 3/4
of the way. Also check condensing coils and motor.
