Recently, I was checking the condition of my softener (Kenmore 625.3854) and noted that the float/float stop in the brinewell was set at an 8" height above the brine valve body. According to the manual, it should be set at 10", so I adjusted it accordingly.

Then it occurred to me that it was probably re-set to 8" by a service man that came out to work on it a year or so ago. So, my question is...What advantage would there be to lowering the float stop from 10 to 8"?

I know it's a nit-picky question, but if I would be better served by a lower stop, I'll go re-set it.

I'm on a well, and the water here is fairly hard and rusty, if that matters.

Thanks,
Jim

There's good and bad in the 8" adjustment.

Good, your using less water.
-less wear and tear on the well system.

Bad, your using less water.
-less water = less rinse.

That's pretty-much what I figured. Given the quality of water here, I think I'd rather go with the more water=better rinse option.
Thanks!
