Drives can usually survive a fall, but not always.

However, it will either operate or it won't. That is about all there is to the problem. However, there are companies that specialize in getting data off broken drives. Yours should be recoverable. Look for "Data Recovery" in the phone book or on the web. Last time I looked, this kind of service started at about $300 and could go into the thousands. However, yours should be on the cheaper end. The high end costs are associated with drives that were involved in a fire or dropped in the water.

Try running it in different positions upside, down on its side etc.

Put it in your freezer overnight with the connection cable attached
Now here is the tricky part
When you take it out quickly seal it in a plastic bag, a freezer bag will do, tape it tightly around the connection cable. This is to prevent condensation on and in the drive as it warms up
Connect it to the computer and try to run it frozen

Sometimes cooling it down will add a bit to tight internal tolerances or contract a poor contact so it will make connect.
It is worth a try but you will have to work fast and get the data off the drive
