Whirlpool side by side freezer

I am having trouble with my whirlpool side by side Model ED25CQXFW02. Occasionally there is no cool air coming from the vent behind the icemaker, when this happens, the ice melts in the bin and I also notice that there is no cool air circulating to the upper part of the refrigerater side as well. There is movement of cool air on the lower half of the freezer and refrigerater. It does not appear to be the defrost timer or the defrost heater. Any suggestions to what this may be?

It was indeed the defrost timer....replaced it and has been working fine ever since.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer working. It blows the cold air. It won't run in the defrost cycle. Are the evaporator coils behind the back panel in the freezer clear of ice.

Since the timer was replaced, everything is working as it should be.
