+Anyone know why a tank would not fill from the water pump? Pump works and forces water out around the sucker rod, not into the tank. Valves are open and pressure gauge works. When pumping pressure gauge on line registers to 5 lbs.
Air in tank bladder registers 40 lbs. Any ideas appreciated.

I had hoped that someone who had actual experience with this would speak up. However, I'm glad to take a stab at it.

First off, If the pressure in the tank is 40 lbs. and the pump pressure is only 5 lbs, wouldn't the pump pressure be inadequate to overcome the tank pressure? I'm sorry if I'm just being dense, but having no experience with this, I am just trying to offer some suggestions.

Or are you saying that when the pump register's 5 lbs, then the tank pressure increase to 40lbs? If so, I'd expect that the pressure along the entire line would be equal. The water leaking out around the "sucker rod" may be the reason for the pressure difference. That would suggest a failed seal. Or if the pressure is not meant to reach 40 lbs, then a problem exists in the tank.

Another thought I had is why is there any pressure in the tank. Shouldn't it be vented so water entering the tank can displace air. The air has to go somewhere when the water fills the tank.

Sorry, if that was of no help.
