Oil Residue In Washer

My mother's washer has had oil residue left on clothes. The last time I used it, there was some at the bottom after a load was finished. I felt around under the agitator and found more. What could be done to fix this??

Assuming it didn't come from something in the laundry, like an ink pen, it is probably your transmission leaking. The water is leaking into the trans and the oil is leaking into the laundry.

This is a costly repair and not for the do-it-yourselfer. Often, this is not a worthwhile repair as the washerr is probably aged and ready for replacement.
