Appliance Doctor: Please Give It To Me Straight.

My Old Montgomery Wards Signature Fridge Has Served Me Well,
But I Fear That The End Is Near. It Hasn't Bben Running As Cold As
When It Was Younger, But Still Alive. Last Night It Cried Out To
Me In Distress. At First, An Unusual Motor Running Sound Seemed
To Be Coming From Freezer Area. A Few Minutes Later When I
Checked, I Open The Freezer Door And The Cry Became Very Urgent
Like A Motor Winding Up, Very Shrill. At 2:30 A.m. I Made The
Decision To "pull The Plug". Considering It's Lifetime Of Service
Is It Worth It To Try To Troubleshoot The Problem, Or Simply
Plan A "memorial Service ?"

"doctor"..."give It To Me Straight"..i Can Take The Bad News...
Your Advice Is Apprieciated.

Hmmmmmmmmm.......... seems like a great opportunity to get you a brand new fridge! My opinion, if the old one is 20+ yrs old, and it's "going crazy" at 2 AM, put it out to pasture. But I like getting new stuff, so if your wallet/purse can handle the pain, I say get a new one. But it sounds like it could be the little motor in the freezer. They are inexpensive to purchase and somewhat easy to install. But then, this is a guess only from what you described. Psssst....... a new side-by-side with crushed ice and water on the door is great! I just bought a new whirlpool side-by-side on sale about 2 months ago for about $800 and some change. :-)

Electric 101 is right, it may be the fan in the freezer. It is fairly easy to replace. But a new fridge would be nice. Not as nice as a trip to hawaii. But then $800 won't go far in Hawaii.
