Question: When the air conditioner (split system) comes on there is an initial dimming of the lights that last for about 1 second. Any ideas of where to look to correct this?
Answer: Generally this is an indication of an underpowered breaker panel. The load being placed on the system is higher when the AC first comes on because the start up load of a motor is greater than the run load. If you aren't drawing much other current when the AC starts, then you probably would need to upgrade your breaker panel. Otherwise, shutting down other appliances when running AC may help.
