I have a hot water radiator heating system. I wish to repalce the old expansion tank (large) with a new diaphram type tank. Are there any considerations for the size and installation of the new tank?

An expansion tank is a simple device that accomodates the expansion of water as it is heated. As the wate is heated, it expands and pushes to the point of least resistance. Without an expansion tank, the pressure build-up of water result in damage to equipment or pipes.

To select the correct size expansion tank is dependent upon two key measurements, the water capacity of your water heater or boiler and the water pressure coming into your home. Armed with these two numbers, your plumbing supply house can help you to select the appropriate size. Also, if you are selecting a product off the shelf, the packaging usually has a table to help you find the correct size for your home.
