Can anyone tell me a good, free source on the web telling how to tie in new wall framing to the old wall? This will be an addition to the house. I'm a fair carpenter but I don't know how to connect the new walls.

I can give you some idea however, I'm afraid it may not be entirely adequate as there are building codes that govern such things and i am not up on the UBC.

First of all, your framing lumber would tie into the frame of the existing house. Imagine a corner, typically builders nail three 2x4's (or 2x6's) together and then on the perpindicular wall they nail one 2x to side of the three stack. This gives helps anchor the one wall to the other. It also provides a nailing surface for drywall at the corner of both interior walls.

Another anchor is in the top plate. Typically the 2x's in your new wall will be capped by another 2x. On top of that goes the top plate. If you cut out the width of the 2x from the top plate of the existing wall and slide in the top plate from a perpindicular wall, you can secure that to create more stability.

Again though, building code trumps all, so you need to determine what your local community building standards require. For instance, Florida has significantly different requirements than, say, Oregon.
