The following is a reprint from our Ask the Expert feature on AcmeHowTo.com (http://www.AcmeHowTo.com):
Question: How do I fix disposer? There is nothing I can feel clogging the disposer, but water will not go down it. Motor appears to be working fine, but water rises out of disposer. What do I do? (I must admit, I put some small corn husks down the drain, which I know I should not have done.)
Answer: Turn off the disposer before trying this. Many disposers have a manual crank underneath. There is a tool that comes with the disposer to insert into the hole. When inserted, you can crank the blades and dislodge debris. If you can't locate the tool, an Allen wrench will work, roughly a 1/4" but you will have check to be sure. Crank it both ways several times and then remove the wrench and try the disposer again.
Don't grind corn husks, they are much too fibrous for the grinder. You may find more help diagnosing this problem (http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/homemaintenance/plumbing/appliances/disposer/disposerfix.php) in our How To section.
