Just recently my Kenmore Dryer (model # 110.86992700 - purchased 1990) stopped working. When I set the drying cycle knob and hit the start button, nothing happens. I do notice that when I listen very closely, I can hear a slight humming noise from the control panel. Upon raising the control panel, I observed that the small housing of the drying cycle knob has a circular back. With the start sequence still initiated, I notice that something appears to be spinning inside of that circular housing.
Additionally, the dryer has a wrinkle guard cycle. I noticed on 2 occasions that when I moved the drying cycle knob to the wrinkle guard position and closed the control panel housing that the drum began to turn for several seconds and then the dryer shut off.
The dryer has never been repaired and has been kept in very good working condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that 15 years is a long time to have a dryer. But before I spend $500-800 on a new unit, I want to know if this dryer is work repairing (The Sears guy is going to charge at least $60 just to take a look-see).
Thanks!
