I'm trying to put a speaker system where we have small puppies with large teeth. It can all be in the walls or above their reach except for the subwoofer. The manual says not to put it in or under a cabinet. Is there another way to solve this that doesn't involve taping the pups' mouths?
(I wondered if I could build a cabinet with some sort of venting that would let sound thru but keep pups out. ???)

If it isn't going to be visible, I would make a temporary cage of chicken wire (for the speaker). Wrap it around so that it mostly doesn't touch the speaker. When the puppies are out of their chewing phase, then just chuck the chicken wire.
Another option is a child proof gate. Place the speaker where you can mount a gate around it.
Another possibility is to put it a baby's playpen, with the pen and the speaker touch the solid ground (for best sound).
I don't know how dogs feel about buble wrap, maybe you could keep them away by wrapping it in bubble wrap.
Incidentally, when they say not to put it under a cabinet, I am not sure exactly what their point is. I have installed plenty of systems and put the under sofas, tables and cabinets. Putting it inside is bad, but under a cabiet in which it does not make contact should be fine. the only thing that comes to mind it that it might vibrate stuff off the shelves.
You could build a box larger than the sub and make one side open by using one of several various rigid mesh screens to cover the one side. It is strong enough to keep the dogs out while still allowing free air and sound movement.
