The following is a reprint from our Ask the Expert feature on AcmeHowTo.com (http://www.AcmeHowTo.com):
Question: While attempting to defrost our freezer )it is a small one inside of a refrigerator), a hole was made in the back of the inside of the freezer. Air immediately started hissing out. Are we able to fix that? Will the refrigerator still work with the hole in the freezer?
Answer: That hole is in the refrigerant coil system. That refrigerant should not be inhaled. The hole can be patched with a cold resistant epoxy compound. However it will probably not last more than two years. In addition the refrigerant will have to be recharged. A recharge can only be done by a professional. The total cost may exceed the value of the fridge.
