My dishwasher will not drain. I have a few theorys: The washer is a bit far from the sink, and I have heard that can be a problem; There isnt a air gap, at least not coming out of the disposal. Can they be any where else? How big of a difference would one make? Would a dishwasher with a two way motor(pumps water in and out) help the situation of being to far away?

I am by no means a pro. but I and pretty mechanically inclined. I should also mention that I am a renter and it has become such a pain in the butt to get him to do anything, Im ready to do it myself. But I dont want to spend too much money. Can anyone help me with some advice?

The drain hose comes off the dishwasher and typically connects to an air gap that is above the counter, next to the sink. This air gap helps prevent all the water being sucked out of the DW at the wrong time and prevents backups into the DW.

From the air gap, the drain usually connects to the side of the garbage disposer. That disposer has a plug in when it is new. So if the disposer was replaced, it has to have plug removed and many people miss that step.

Other than that, follow our suggestions on the website for dealing with drain issues. Checkl for clogged filter, clean out drain lines, check the pump etc.
