I have a ritetemp thermostat model 8085c. I moved in this past May and have had no issues with the AC. Now that it's starting to get cold in TX, I turned on the heater only to find that it will only run (and it does blow hot air) if the desired temp is set below the current temp. It doesn't shut off until I set the desired temp to above the current temp. So it seems to be working in AC mode, where it comes on if it gets too warm and doesn't want to shut off until it's cooled to the desired temp. Seems like a crossed wire or some kind of programming thing, but I really have no idea. Right now I just have the temp set low and turn it on manually with the heat/off/AC switch moved to heat until I get it warmed up, then turn it off manually so that it doesn't get into the 90s in the house. Any ideas?
Thanks all

If it's not a HeatPump system, check to see if there are (2) wires on the Y Terminal
It should only have the Yellow wire there.
If it also has a White wire, move the White wire to W
I that is the problem, you also need to have the Jumper installed RC to RH

Thanks for the help.
As far as I know, it's not a heat pump, there is a furnace (I guess, sorry) in a mini closet behind the thermostat, with the hot water tank. There is only the yellow wire on the Y terminal, but the white wire is on the W2 terminal. There is no wire on the W terminal. There is a jumper between RC and RH. I did find that the jumpers labeled GAS and ELECT had the jumper on the GAS one, but I know it's an electric system, no gas at this house. I'm going to make that jumper change. The normal/pump switch is set to normal. Also, the 2,3,4 jumpers are shorted across 2.
After making the GAS/ELECT change to ELECT, the system was reading 75 as temp, the target temp was set to 68 and the furnace kicked on, so it's still acting in opposite mode.
Anything else above (like no wire on W) seem to need changed? Any other ideas? Thanks a lot for all the help

Sorry, I was wrong, I thought the Heat would only work when it was set to AC mode.
I don't know what else to tell you, it could be a bad Thermostat.

I am not sure if I can help, but let me give it a try.
First, are you saying there are only two wires connected to the thermostat?
You have AC and it is also controlled by this same thermostat?
Can you see a brand name on the heating unit, if so, what is the brand?
You mentioned the furnace, but where is the AC unit located?
