The light over my entrance, high hat that is not in the weather goes out by itself. Sometimes it comes back by on itself after a period of time. When it goes out I cannot immediately get it back on by throwing the switch off then on.It will go back on if I wait some time before throwing the switch. I tried changing the switch NG. Help Please

Simple as it seems, have you tried tightening the bulb in its socket?
It sounds like a pretty clear case of a contact being lost and remade. That can result from a loose bulb, a loose wire on the switch or in the fixture wiring, as a result of corrosion of the contacts in the bulb socket, a bad switch or least likely a broken (or nibbled) wire somewhere in between.

Depending on the type of Bulb and Fixture, it may be a Thermal Device tripping.

That's what I'm thinking too. When the light gets too hot it will shut itself down. And when it cools off it will reset itself. The best way to solve this problem is either switch to a lower wattage bulb or go into the attic and make sure all the insulation is cleared away from the light so the heat can escape.

The bulb that was in place was to high wattage for the fixture. I replaced the bulb with a lower wattage. Problem solved! Thanks for your help
