View Full Version : Whirlpool DU850 motor issue

Dishwasher runs 1 cycle then stops, resulting in water in the tub and less than perfectly clean dishes. If I pull the door ajar and wait ~15 minutes, it will restart in the next cycle. If I leave it alone, it completes the first cycle (normal wash), goes into the 2nd cycle (rinse) and starts putting water in ... then nothing as it ticks through the rest of the cycles.

I've pulled the hoses, check the drain valves, and pretty much done what I can short of pulling the pump/motor assembly off. According to the Use and Care guide, it states "Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not restart, call for service."

Seems like the timer, pump, drain, and hoses are all fine...only thing left is the motor.

So my question is, any expert diagnoses out there? What can I do to the motor to try and prolong the life or resolve the issue? I'd rather not buy a new motor as it costs ~$140, roughly 1/2 the price of a brand new DU850.

you could check the voltage at the Motor when it stops...

Motor Blu/White to White/Violet should be running if 120v AC
(wire colors may depend on full model number DU850xxxxx)

So, possible short leading to it overheating? Do you know if there is a fuse or circuit that could be replaced...or do you just think the mechanical motor has lived a good, long life, and now it's time for a longer dirt nap?
