I have a 5-year-old Kenmore Range Model 790. When I first started having problems I thought it was just a burner needing replaced but then found, through trial and error, that when facing the range, the two left burners run really, really, really hot and the two right burners run really, really, really slow. This model has the "Simmer Select" feature on the front left burner but when I use it now, whatever's on the burner boils rapidly, no matter how low I turn the heat.
Can anyone give any insight as to a remedy for this problem? TIA!

You could try swapping the Elements with each other.
You may have to do some voltage tests.
The Simmer Switch connects the Burner Element to only 120v instead of 240v.

The only thing that could cause the surface elements to heat uncontrollably (not cycling on and off at all resulting in glowing red) would be a failure of their switches. It would however be very unusual for them both to have failed in the same way *at the same time* (if they in fact did). Maybe a power surge to the appliance could cause it?

the two right burners run really, really, really slow.
Electric surface element only getting warm could be caused by a problem in their switches, a problem in the wiring to those switches, the elements shorted to ground or a poor connection between the elements and their mating plug-in receptacle (see the following link).

Reg,
I believe corrected your forum permissions, give it a try. You were set up as the wrong class of moderator. If you continue to have problems let me know. You should be able to edit and delete threads or individual posts at this point.
BTW, there isn't a report post mechanism in this version of the forums software, the best we can do is weed out the spammers when we see them...
Thanks!
