Whirlpool ED25PW. I found my icemaker producing heat and it was thawing my whole freezer. The bottom of the icemaker itself was very very hot ( the mold tray) it has a history of making hollow ice cubes. It also has a history of ice forming in the bin below it that looks like frozen waterfall. Would the best thing to be to replace the whole unit with a new one or try to part it to fix it? Can anybody help me figure out how to fix this myself?

That model number is incomplete, we would need the whole thing as written right on the appliance's identification tag to identify the appliance in question.

It may be stuck in harvest mode where the bottom heater comes on to loosen the cubes.
it has a history of making hollow ice cubes.
That will occur if insufficient water is able to fill the icemaker in the alloted time. That is most often caused by a problem in the water supply to the refrigerator which could include a plugged sediment screen (if installed) right at the fridge's water valve, a kink in that line or more commonly, the use of a 'self piercing' saddle valve on the house water pipe for the fridge's water supply.
It also has a history of ice forming in the bin below it that looks like frozen waterfall.
That could be caused by the icemaker filling before the previous water has had a chance to freeze which could be related to the icemaker's mould heater staying on. It is however more commonly the result of the fill failing to stop at the appropriate time. That could be caused by a problem with the fridge's water valve 'sticking' open, the icemaker powering it for too long or a problem with the water pressure to the fridge.

If the problem is in the icemaker, few parts are available separately for the most commonly used icemaker and when needed it is often more cost effective to replace the whole icemaker as an assembly... if available that way for whatever fridge model you have. Once we have the fridge's complete model can can look it up to see.
Just a problem in the icemaker is likely not your whole problem. Someone should also look into the water supply line to the fridge for the hollow cubes issue and possible over filling symptoms.
