my sister has an electric range--i think it's a whirlpool--with a digital display. she can turn it on to bake and it will heat up to the set temperature but will not stay at that temp. she has to turn the oven off, then back on in order to get it to heat up again. it won't always reheat unless it sits for awhile, though. she says that the elements do turn red, though, when they do work. i had a similar problem with a gas oven and it was the ignitor. does anyone know what would cause an electric oven to behave this way? if the element is bad, would it heat up at all? or would the sensor be bad?

Hmmm, haven't had too much experience with the digitals other than this. On a digital controlled range, the oven temperature was so far off, you couldn't use the controls to adjust it. Had to replace the electronic controls. Everything worked fine after that. If I had to guess, I would say the electronic control board is bad. But this is just a guess. :-)
