Heat initially comes on and then cycles off when temp is reached, however, when more heat is demanded, igniter glows but burner will not lite. Igniter will then go off after several seconds and comes back on to try again to no avail.

Sounds like the common problem of intermittent Gas Valve Coils.

They get warm and the coil winding opens internally.

Usually about $20 for the set of (2)
