I have a Whirlpool 27 inch built in oven, Model RGE-1600P. When oven is set above 350 degrees, temp will continually increase on it's own. What do I look at? Is the thermostat bad or does this require professional service?

The first thing to look at is the temperature probe. Look inside the oven, when its cool ;-> , for metal tube like thing a few inches long. It is typically held away from the side by a bracket. If it is touching the sides or the tube or its lead are damaged, that is the likely problem.

The other likely possibility is the temperture control may be bad. One other thing, make the broiler isn't also going, then it may be the oven/broiler selector. Note though that the broiler does come on in some ovens to preheat the oven, so just check for it after the oven is up to operating temperature.

Whirlpool built in oven model RGE-1600P[/quote]That model number is incomplete, did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number identification tag?

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

When oven is set above 350 degrees... But not when set below that?? or does it always heat uncontrollably?

Is either oven element glowing red after the set oven temperature has been reached?

If it is touching the sides [of the oven cavity] That situation would usually eventually result in lower than the set oven temperature as it would cause the thermostat to read the oven cavity (ie. metal) temperature which retains its heat for longer than the oven air the thermostat relies upon to cycle the oven elements back on.
