The ice and water dispenser on my Hot Point double door refrigerator stopped working. I replaced the water valve and it still will not work. Do you have other suggestions that might resolve this? Thanks

Hot Point double door refrigerator I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number. If you post it we can look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

The ice and water dispenser stopped working Is the fridge no longer making ice or just the dispenser not dispensing it?

Did both functions stop at the same time?

The Hot Point model #: HSS25IFMDWW
First the water dispenser quit. Then when the ice tray was empty we determined it was no longer making ice so we bought a bag of ice and filled the tray--ice dispenser works just fine just does not make ice.

The solenoid water valve tests good and the water supply valve works good.

I hope this additional info helps you. Thanks Tom

First the water dispenser quit. Then when the ice tray was empty... So the problems may not have occurred together? The only thing I can see affecting both at the same time anyway is the main water supply to the whole fridge.

For the icemaker, the fill tube that goes through the rear of the cabinet to the icemaker could be frozen closed and not allowing water pass.

Will the icemaker harvest the cubes if its ice mold is manually filled with water? If it did it might help to rule out a problem in the icemaker itself as a potential cause.

For the water dispenser, is water getting to the door water line connection when the water dispenser is activated? There might just be a frozen line inside the freezer door restricting the water flow to the dispenser.

Thank you for the suggestion. I manually put water in the ice maker mold and it did harvest ice which would then go through to fill a glass.

When I turn on the dispenser button for the water and then try to dispense water into a glass nothing comes out. What steps do you suggest to resolve this issue.

Your assistance to date is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I manually put water in the ice maker mold and it did harvest ice Since the icemaker at least looks to be capable of working, someone should check the fill tube to the icemaker to see if it might just be frozen closed.

try to dispense water into a glass nothing comes out. Can you hear any sounds from the back of the fridge when the water dispenser is activated? The water valve on the back of the fridge might make a buzzing sound at that time.

Some recent GE made fridges had a problem with the water line inside the freezer door freezing closed.

There should be a connection for the door water line at the cabinet base. That water line might be able to be disconnected to see if water is at least making it that far when the dispenser is activated. If it was but not getting any further, a frozen water line inside the door would be suspect.

Yes, when I activate the water dispenser there is a noise at the back of the refrigerator.

Is the connection for the door water at the rear of the refrigerator? If so, the water flows freely when I disconnect it from the water valve and turn on the water spigot. If it is at the front, could you give me an idea where to look for it as I do not see it? Is it behind the door gasket? If yes, can that be easily removed without causing damage to it?

If the line in the door is frozen how do I thaw that out?

Thanks again.

Is the connection for the door water at the rear of the refrigerator? That's where it starts. Tubing from there travels to the bottom of the door by the hinge and then up into the door. There should be a connection near the door, used for when the door has to be removed.

If the line in the door is frozen how do I thaw that out? That will depend on where in the door the line is frozen. It is possible it froze just up near the spout where a hairdryer might (carefully) be used or warm/hot water. If frozen inside the main part of the door, warming the door would likely be necessary. That would also likely required turning off the refrigerator during the process.

You might find the solution I stumbled upon either uniques or unbelievable. I was ready to give up and call a repairman but, decided to try one last thing.

I removed the tubing connection at the water valve and connected the tubing to the water supply. Then I turned on the water supply full blast. Immediately the water dispenser worked and the ice maker began making ice.

So far it has been working perfectly for about two weeks.
