I have a side by side GE fridge. I came home last night to it in defrost mode, water running down the back from the melting ice in the collection tray. There were melting icicles hanging off the ice maker. I have checked the water line from the wall to the back of the unit and everything is solid. Water comes into the ice maker tray , but will overflow and run down the front of it. Also, for the last couple of months, water will pool on the little arm that tells the maker to stop making the ice and freeze, stopping ice production. I would normally have to reach in and brush it off so that it would continue making ice. Last night was the first time water had run over the top of the ice cube tray and froze like that. Any suggestions on how to fix this? We're new to fixing things, so the simpler the better. Thanks so much!

I suspect the ice tray fills to the proper level then over time it slowly overfills. This results from a leaky water inlet valve. It is cheap and easy to replace and we have step by step instructions on our website www.acmehowto.com

Can I get this part at Home Depot or Lowes?

Typically, no. It is a fairly specific part and beyond the scope of what they carry. However, both stores carry more and more stuff, so you never know.
