Kenmore refrigerator water dispenser runs continuously

We heard water running and discovered the refrigerator water dispenser running continuously. The water inlet valve tests ok for resistance (200 ohms) and the switch at the dispenser tests ok as well. Is it possible that the valve is stuck open or otherwise faulty? I would have assumed that, except that the water began to run spontaneously (and wide-open at that). Any advice would be most appreciated.

Yes, an inlet vlave can become stuck open, closed or somewhere in between. Even if the solenoid tests okay, the valve can have a mechanical problem.

Since the switch tests okay, it clearly isn't signalling for water, so the problem is likely the valve. The only other thing to check is whether the valve is getting an electrical signal from some wiring fault.
