The motor on my White Westinghouse chest-style freezer does not turn over when the chest is upright. When it's tilted at 45 degree angle, it runs laboriously, and when it's almost flat on its front (say about a 75 degree angle), the motor seems to operate fine.

I've never done it before, but it's pretty tough to get your frozen hamburgers out of the freezer when it's lying on its front!

What might be the problem? (It's been empty and in storage for several years).

Lol... That's A New One To Me.... The Only Thing I Could Think Of Is That When You Tilt It Forward, You Remove Most Of The Oil In The Compressor Making It Easier To Run.... But Doin That Would Cause Harm To The Compressor If Ran Over A Long Period Of Time.... Try Installing A 3-n-1 Hard Start On The Compressor And See If That Helps... Other Than That I Would Say The Compressor Is To Weak To Start On It's Own...k
