Kenmore Clothes Washer 'Stops'

Kenmore washer is 20 years old. On the rinse/spin cycle it always turns itself off at the same place, but will re-start with a little 'slap' on the knob. Is some gear worn out? Is it worth fixing?

I would tend to suspect the timer control has a short or dirty connect. You might be able to open it up and spray some contact cleaner or even just a blast of air to clean it out. Unplug the washer first of course.

I wouldn't invest much money in repairing a washer this old though.
