The following is a reprint from our Ask the Expert feature on AcmeHowTo.com (http://www.AcmeHowTo.com):

Question: Whirlpool modular icemaker in 1998 Kenmore refrigerator: Replaced orignial icemaker because it would periodically stop ejecting cubes despite continuous ejector attempts to cycle properly. New icemaker exhibits same problem. Heater tests 72 ohms. Freezer temp is 8 degrees. Cube size adjustment set to minimun allowed. A minute of hair dryer warm air on unit allows cubes to eject properly.

Also, the duplex water inlet valve was replaced with the new icemaker to no avail.

Clueless and cubeless

Answer: Your tray may be overfilling or the water inlet valve may actually be leaking and so just enough water is freezing in the tray to prevent the ice from being pushed out. Observe the fill spout above the ice
mold and watch for a slow drip. If seen, then replace the inlet valve.

When the tray fills with water, if it covers the dividers between cubes it may be impossible for the mechanism to push out the cubes. If you cannot locate a flow control feature on the icemaker itself, you may be able to achieve the same results by reducing the water pressure at the supply valve.
