My Kenmore side-by-side developed a problem with the front panel ice dispenser controls. The crushed ice function does nothing, the cubed ice function makes noise but nothing churns and I get no ice. The water dispenser and ice maker work fine.
The auger turns by hand, and the auger motor coupler turn by hand. The flapper is not opening as best I can tell. Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you were able to turn auger coupler in both directions, I would say that could be a problem. The coupler is connected to a motor and should offer some resistance to turning. However, this is not always the case.
What I recommend is taking the ice bucket out, press the door interlock switch closed (so the fridge thinks the door is closed) note that this is usually a separate switch from the door light switch, then signal for ice on the front panel. Observe the auger.
Did it move, twitch or anything? If you believe the motor was working but the auger didn't turn or it turned weakly, then the conenction of the coupler to the motor may be loose or damaged.
If nothing at all happened, then there are a lot of possibilities. You said there was noise right? Determine what that noise is and let me know. It will help in further diagnosing the problem.

I have a Kenmore unit, and the same problem is happening with me. The noise coming from the fridge sounds like the motor operating normal. However, I have found that by doing what you have mentioned earlier. The turbine that spins inside the ice tray does not move. It does not push the ice forward. You can move it by hand and spin it a little, but the motor does not spin it. Should I check something else? What should I do? Thanks!

i have the same problem, this kenmore fridge is frustrating. i just replaced the dispensing motor with a new one. the auger is still not turrning. is there another realy or fuse somewhere that may prevent power to the motor or is there another place i can troubleshoot.
