My Kenmore washing machine (110.82873120) agitates and drains water (it does indeed agitate, I checked) but does not spin at all in any cycle. The motor coupler looks great, the drive block is somewhat corroded at bottom but intack on inside. The splines also look alright. There is a brown/black substance on the white/tan terminal on the harness plug. I have not tested this with a meter yet.

After reading several threads relating to this issue, it looks like everything is pointing to the transmission or motor? I will replace the unit if this is the case due to cost. Is there any other components that could be failing that are less costly or worth replacement?

Thanks for your help!

sounds like the lid switch is bad. try closing the lid slowley, when it gets almost shut it should make a light clicking noise.

The lid switch interrupts the spin cycle. You can test the lid switch, here is a link to our article on the procedure:

If it tests bad, replacement is cheap and easy.
