 Hi, I need some help with a dryer cord. Right now, it has a 4-prong cord on the dryer. I need to change it back to the original 3-prong cord. The 4-prong power cord has colors on the different wires. The 3-prong is totally gray. I know the direction the prong things go on if it were on the back of the dryer, but what I don't know is are they to go on perfectly th way they are, or do they have to cross somehow like the wires on the 4-prong power cord does. I am going to try to attach a picture of the 3-prong power cord, and the back of the dryer with the present 4-prong power cord still attached. Hopefully someone can get back to me soon. I've been waiting for someone to help me for a year and I'm tired of being without my dryer. Then the next thing is to change out the outlet. It is a 3-prong outlet, and I have a new 3-prong outlet. The one in the wall is cracked. Is it safe to use temporarily like this? I mean the outlet? Thank you. ~ Helen

were the plug wires to the back of the dryer their should be 3 screws.. the two outside screw ore were the voltage comes in and the center screw is the netral. I shouldnt matter which of the gray ones you put on the outer two screws, as long as the center eye from the cord is put on the center screw

Don't downgrade your dryer and your safety. The four prong plug includes a ground wire to help prevent a fatal electric shock. Instead you need to upgrade your outlet to a grounded four prong outlet. An electrician should be able to fix this problem for a reasonable price.
