Ok, so i read other threads, but i still dont quite understand how my refridgerator works. Help would be great.

My Kenmore fridge tremendously cooled down, and so we started to put our stuff into the freezer. Now the freezer ice is melting down, and dripping out of the water dispenser.

But the freezer seems to be working well, and the fan kicks in like its trying to cool it.
*There is tons of ice on the back wall of the freezer also.. Does that have any effect?

Just trying to figure out how it works, and what i'm going to have to replace.
Thanks in advance.

So for some reason you were not using it and then you started it up and it got cool.
Any way all that ice on the back wall is either your melted ice refrozen as it dripped down or it formed because your evaporater behind the wall has frozen up because it is covered in ice and needs defrosting. Your auto defrost timer may be bad or your heater elements went bad. You can defrost it yourself if you need it quick. Either cut the fridge off and wait for it to melt or take the back panel off to defrost with a hair dryer.

If you're talking about the fan in the freezer, it pulls air across the coils and also blows air to the fridge side. If the coils are blocked by ice, the air cannot flow across them.

But then again it usually takes over a week for that much ice to build up.

Perhaps the evaporator fan isn't working. It's located in the bottom near the back, accessable from the back. It should be running when the compressor is running which is located near the fan. You can temporarily get by without the fan by positioning a fan so that it blows accross the coils underneath the fridge.

Sounds To Me Like You Have A Defrost Problem... The Ice Build Up On The Back Of The Freezer Is Causing An Airflow Restriction. In Turn Making The Refrigerator Section To Warm... Unplug The Refrigerator And Thaw All The Ice, Making Sure That The Ice Is Thawed Behind The Back Panel Where The Coils Are... If The Refrigerator Works Fine Then You'll Know That Is What Your Problem Is... Write Me Back And I'll Tell You What To Look For To Repair The Defrost Problem....k
